Principal's Message

Dear Arnold Adreani Families,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of Arnold Adreani Elementary School. I feel fortunate to be entrusted to lead a school with persevering students, a dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. I am honored to be a part of the Adreani community, and I look forward to getting to know each of you and working together for a great school year.  I can assure you that I share in this school community’s commitment to caring for your children each day while providing them with a high-quality learning environment. My leadership will focus on every student leaving Adreani prepared academically, socially, and civically, to be successful in middle school.

The 2024-2025 school year marks my 21st year in education, the last seven of which I have spent in the Elk Grove Unified School District, most recently as Vice Principal of Raymond Case Elementary School. I was raised in both Southern California and Western Washington. In Seattle, I attended the University of Washington where I received both a degree in political science and a teaching credential. Later, I received advanced degrees in both school administration and special education. I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2004 to accept my first teaching position. Thirteen years later, I moved to Elk Grove and found a beautiful city rich in diversity and culture and a school district that values high standards by providing outstanding learning experiences for all students. My son, Harlow, attends sixth grade in EGUSD and my daughter, Emmaleigh, thoroughly enjoys Pre-Kindergarten near our home. Together, my husband, children, and I enjoy traveling, cooking, and spending time with our friends and family.

I am particularly looking forward to meeting and working with each of you.  Back to School Night for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be Tuesday, August 13th and on Thursday, August 22nd for Grades 1-6. Please find me to introduce yourself! By working together as a team, the students, parents, and staff of Adreani Elementary School will create an outstanding school year.

With great anticipation,

Laura Smetak-Buck
